Digital Story Workshop provides:

• Videos (5-10 minute imaginative live-action video products that the children watch together in class and take home on DVDs)

• Media education (empowerment through learning about how digital movies are made).

• Arts education (workshops focusing on making props and costumes).

• Play collaboration with Kristin Eno, Ed.M. (helping children's play to reach to a higher intellectual level--see Vygotsky, V. Paley, Sutton Smith, Lindqvist).

• Incorporation of imaginative play into classroom curriculum (addressing a very important need for children of this age group).

• Incorporation of outside time into the school schedule (the videos are often shot outside the school walls).

• Small group work/social interaction with other children; healthy interaction between child and adult project facilitators.

Digital Story Workshop diverges from the current definition of "Digital Storytelling," as defined by the Center for Digital Storytelling and the Digital Storytelling Association, in that we produce videos that read as films, rather than as multimedia stories. We always incorporate voiceover narration from the children who participate, so in that sense, the work corresponds to the accepted definition of "digital storytelling." Digital Story Workshop is currently in the process of changing its name to include both the concepts of "children's imagination/fantasy play" and "international."
